LifeStyles, Inc. hosts the 2024 Walk to End Homelessness on November 23, 2024, in White Plains, Maryland. The event begins at 8:30 am and walking begins at 9:00 am. The walk starts at White Plains LifeStyles Center at 10453 Theodore Green Boulevard and continues to the Indian Head Rail Trail.

Montgomery County Camp Greentree for Youth Experiencing Homeless and Behavioral Needs

In July 2024, Montgomery County opened Camp Greentree, a 5-week summer camp for youth experiencing homelessness and behavioral needs. JSSA, a health and social wellness agency, and Montgomery County Public Schools partnered to establish this camp, utilizing funding from: MCPS; the McKinney-Vento National Center for Homeless Education; and the Maryland Consortium on Coordinated Community Supports (the Consortium) and Maryland Community Health Resources Commission (CHRC).

Maryland Office of Homeless Services Awards $1.5M to Support Unhoused Youth in Baltimore

In March 2024, it was announced that Springboard Community Services (SCS) and Point Source Youth (PSY) will be awarded a total of $1.5 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding. These funds will be used to support housing stability for youth aged 18 – 24 in Baltimore City.

Student Homelessness Initiative Partnership (SHIP) of Frederick County will be hosting a Harry Potter trivia night at Frederick Social in honor of the organization’s 10th birthday. The event will take place on November 7, 2024 from 5 to 9 pm.

Howard County Executive Launches Family Home Start Program with Connection to Housing Stability

On February 8, 2024, Howard County announced the Family Home Start Program, with Bridges to Housing Stability. These programs provide support for families experiencing homelessness in Howard County Public Schools. Qualified families are eligible to receive security deposit guarantee, first month’s rent, housing search resources, and short-term case management.

$69 Million in Federal Funding to Support Homeless Services

On April 30, 2024, it was announced that Maryland received 69 million dollars in federal funding, which will be allocated to each of the ten Continuums of Care (CoC). These funds will support homeless services and projects including new initiatives such as trauma informed trainings for CoC staff, funding Allegany County Human Resources Development Commission to support rapid rehousing, and supporting joint transitional housing and rapid rehousing facilities Fuller House and Southern Crossing.

$2 Million in Federal Funding to Benefit Maryland Homeless Youth

HUD announced 2 million dollars in Youth Homelessness System Improvement (YHSI) grants awarded to Maryland. YSHI grants will be used to develop a network of Youth Action Boards, make improvements to the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) and Coordinated Entry systems, establish a youth homeless prevention and response plan, and create statewide standards and trainings for family and youth support workers.

New Housing Legislation Signed to Make Maryland More Affordable

On April 25, 2024, Governor Wes Moore enacted three new bills: The Housing Expansion and Affordability Act, The Housing and Community Development Financing Act, and The Renters’ Rights and Stabilization Act. These bills aim to improve housing instability in Maryland by incentivizing the construction of new affordable housing, protecting renters by increasing the cost of filing for eviction, and lowering security deposits required for rentals.
